Understanding Our Two Series
Psychgeist of Pop Culture
Our Psychgeist of Pop Culture series focuses on shorter, general-audience books (40,000-60,000 words) that examine specific fandoms through an accessible psychological and cultural lens. Recent and upcoming titles explore topics like The Witcher, The Mandalorian, and Dungeons & Dragons. These books bring academic rigor to popular culture in an engaging, approachable format.
Games And
The “Games And” series bridges this gap by examining the profound intersections between games and fundamental aspects of human life—nostalgia, love, identity, and beyond. Each volume brings together rigorous academic inquiry (50,000 – 85,000 words) with accessible insights, exploring how games shape and are shaped by our most essential experiences. Through interdisciplinary perspectives and evidence-based analysis, this series establishes games as a vital lens for understanding contemporary culture, psychology, and society.
Submission Requirements
Please send your proposal to rkowert@gmail.com with the following materials:
- Basic Information
- Proposed book title
- Your name and contact information
- Mock Call for Papers
- Provide an example call for papers as you would send to potential contributors. This helps us understand how you would frame the project and attract authors.
- An example can be found here.
- Detailed Proposal
Submit a comprehensive proposal outlining your vision for the book. We understand you likely won’t have confirmed contributors at this stage, but your proposal should demonstrate:
For Psychgeist of Pop Culture submissions:
- What makes your topic unique or interesting? Generic themes appear across many franchises—we need to understand what sets yours apart. For example, while many games and stories explore masculinity, what makes The Witcher interesting is Geralt’s non-toxic masculinity. Similarly, while many RPGs exist, The Elder Scrolls stands out for its exceptional replayability and longevity. Identify the distinctive angle that justifies a dedicated volume.

For “Games And” submissions:
- Demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches. Show how your proposed volume will bring together diverse scholarly perspectives (psychology, sociology, media studies, game studies, etc.)
- Include proposed contributors. Even if you haven’t confirmed their participation, provide names of scholars whose work aligns with your vision. This gives us a sense of the interdisciplinary scope and academic caliber you’re targeting.
